TRW is achieving a number of goals with its next-generation ACR, including a reduction in weight, packaging and cost, while maintaining high quality and performance. The ACR2 features a compact brush-motor, instead of a brushless motor, and a redesigned clutch and a toothed belt with spur gear transmission.

Like the original ACR, the new version has reversible pretensioning and a parametric trigger algorithm with actuation software. ACR2 also has a pyrotechnic device within it. The new restraint system offers more comfort features and dynamic support; it also features an improved algorithm.
