Adaptive Cruise Control

Building on the function of standard cruise control, TRW’s Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) automatically adjusts vehicle speed and distance to that of a target vehicle. The system is composed of a radar headway sensor, digital processor and longitudinal controller.

TRW’s production system uses a 77GHz long-range radar, which operates at distances between 1.5m and 200m, and at speeds up to 220km/h.
Driver support includes:

    * Assist with driver overload and stress in congested highway situations.
    * Assist with key driver functions (accelerating and braking) while cruising.

The additional function of Follow to Stop is an option with a single sensor source, enabling the vehicle to follow a target in traffic jam situations to a full stop.

TRW’s ACC with Stop and Go uses an additional 24GHz mid-range radar to cover a wider field of view up to 65m in front of the ACC-equipped vehicle.
