TRW has developed the modular ESC-R (regenerative-capable Electronic Stability Control) system primarily for hybrid electric vehicles. The modular, hydraulically closed-loop system is based on standard ESC, but features a brake pedal simulator.

ESC-R operates in all FWD, RWD and 4WD configurations. It offers full compatibility for regenerative braking in HEV vehicles, without change in pedal feel compared with a conventional brake system, allowing for a maximum of energy recovery during braking
