The TRW Park Assist system combines electrically powered steering with environmental sensing to aid drivers during parallel parking maneuvers. The system uses short-range radar sensors to evaluate the length of the parking slot. From this information, the steering trajectory is calculated and the proper steering angle is automatically chosen. The driver monitors the steering and operates only the throttle and braking system while the parking maneuver is completed.

TRW's Park Assist system monitors an empty parking space to determine if the space can accommodate the vehicle.  Upon finding a suitable parking spot, TRW's Park Assist is activated.  Park Assist communicates to the driver a proper parking course, or automatically adjusts the steering control for the parking maneuver.
